Tunable Electro-Optical and Thermal Optical Modulator Based on a Liquid Crystal-Filled Side Hole Fiber in Fiber Ring Laser

A new tunable electro-optical and thermal-optical modulator based on a liquid crystal (LC) filled side hole fiber (SHF) in ring laser (FRL) system has been proposed experimentally demonstrated. The LC is penetrated into the air of SHF, refractive index (RI) will be altered when an external electrical field or temperature difference applied due to effects electro-optic effects. SHF used as both filter sensing head cavity. Besides, resonance wavelength more sensitive variations high thermal-optic coefficient incident light interacts with internal infiltrated LC. Meanwhile, sensor good performance extinction ratio (>42 dB) narrow 3-dB bandwidth (less than 0.08 nm). consequent thermal electronic sensitivity are measured −4.23 nm/°C 0.604nm/V, respectively. Moreover, excellent reliable expected monitor electric wavelength-tunable devices within small change range needed.
